A bit out of date, but this interactive map of step free London is very good
Step Free Rail in London Stations TFL, Elizabeth Line, National rail and Uber Thames Clippers.
January 2025 :
My name is Kevan Wilding, and I have spent many hours personally visiting the rail stations in London, and recording the stairs and elevators, plus lifts. I was a lot more able then, now I am in a wheelchair (with a carer), for any travel to London sadly, and its extremely hard to know the best routes, and which stations to head for.
There are a number of indexes of TFL Rail stations listed, plus the Uber Boats (all with steep ramps). These list individual details of whether a station is accessible for someone in a wheelchair. I then try to give more detail to the number of stairs allowing access to a station.
I definitely recommend the TFL app for the phone. It is called TFL Go. It gives an overview of accessible stations, although very little detail or distances.
The National Rail
Access Map names 2590 Stations in England, Scotland and Wales. You can search this map by station.
The buses are usually useful, not always, sometimes they ignore the bell and stop elsewhere. There are also a huge number of bus stops closed for construction nearby. Again the person who allows this does not care about accessibility, or those with walking difficulties.
I started this site before the Olympics came to London in 2012, and the best thing which has happened since, is the Elizabeth line (except the ramps needed to get onto the trains at many stations!) Overall, this line is brilliant for everybody.
I am not always wheelchair bound, well I am at present, although I can walk to the bathroom.
But just because a station is step-free does not always make this station accessible to me, e.g. the one mile walk between the new and old stations currently both called Liverpool street.
Who is the idiot who gives two separate stations the same name?
I plan to add all stations going in and out of London next. If you can help,
please email me. essex1841 @ outlook.com
Thanks.
